Originally, Google Talk (and the Gmail and Orkut integration) was an entirely separate product from Google Voice.
Next, Google Voice was integrated into the Gmail Google Talk implementation and then, recently, into Google Hangouts (Google+) as well.
Google Talk itself, as a standalone product, has been more or less killed.
Google's goal right now is ...

It seems like you can only delete entire conversations, based on this Google Voice issue about deleting SMS messages,
Google Voice is big on the Conversation, or "SMSThread" as we have
named it. I do not think it is even possible to delete a specific
message out of a conversation or SMSThread, you have to delete the

I use my ObiHai paired to my Google Voice account.
I have my fax machine on line #2 and my home phones on line #1, on the ObiHai. The ObiHai detects when a fax comes in and sends it to line #2 and voice is line #1. Simple and effective.
You may want to investigate IF This Then That and maybe their recipe that allows you to automatically forward a e-mail message to a phone via SMS. This recipe may not fully work for you, depending on your needs, but this is a start.
ifttt is truly a godsend when it comes to connecting different services.
Yes, use the Google Takeout service to download your Google Voice data.
This is what the Google Voice archive will contain:
Your Voice billing history and conversations will be provided as HTML. Greetings and voicemail recordings will be provided as MPEG Audio (mp3). Your list of phones will be provided in the vCard format.
I had the same issue and I asked Telegram support. They told me they only allow Real mobile numbers from now on (no more VoIP). But they helped me to login with my Google Voice number and migrate to a real number.
They also told me that pre-registered VoIP numbers should work again with the next update.
Up to you to contact them in order to change the ...
Google Voice is a voip service which relies on the Jabber protocol (which is what Google Chat is using). Google Chat which is built within Gmail means that your calls will use that if it open and you also selected that option.
Untill Google puts a Google Chat feature like on Gmail on the Google Voice page, you will have to use the options below:

I ported my number to a Verizon Prepaid plan (I didn't tell them what my end goal was just that I wanted to change to their prepaid plan), the cheapest one was 200 minutes if I remember correctly. I used my phone for a couple of weeks. Once my minutes were almost used up I ported my number to Google Voice. I can't remember the total cost, I had to pay ...

I liked SoulWinter's Apple Script idea but it didn't quite work for me.
I wasted a lot of time trying to get the Python programs to work which just seem to be too far out of date.
I modified it to work as follows. I was using Chrome, so you might need to change "Google Chrome" to your browser if you aren't. You also need to change X to the number of unread ...
I used the auto hotkey solution posted earlier with a small addendum:
replace X with the number of messages you have divided by 10.
I left my laptop alone for a minute or two and went through 500 messages.
From what I know, the only current way to do it is through your Google Voice administration.
You can receive, send and reply from Google Voice and your text message would show up under your Google Voice number rather than your Gmail address.
I prefere the Gmail interface for texting, but so far it seems as the only way to go.
If you read the terms of service (which are very hard to find btw) it states what is prohibited:

I had this problem, and it turned out to be the USB headset I was using on my Mac. It would get further and further out of sync (audio was delayed) as the call progressed, until about 30 minutes in when my voice would be garbled for a little while and it would then get back in sync, and then repeat. I had another USB audio device so I switched to that, ...
In Google Voice, go to Settings | Calls and turn off "Call Screening".
Callers will no longer be asked to say their name, nor will you be prompted to "press 1" to accept the call.
More information at Google Support.
Google voice does work like that - though you need a number to initially set it up IIRC. Once thats done, just disassociate your number from the line, and it should just work as a voice mail box. You might also be able to get a number off something like ipkall, and use that with a SIP account. Planned properly this should be free.
You can then set do not ...
