To exclude empty cells (which are counted as zeros altering the result) we adjust the formula by adding the FILTER function.

=AVERAGE(ArrayFormula((REGEXREPLACE(TO_TEXT(FILTER(A44:H44,A44:H44<>"")),"L",""))*1))
